Ahead of their massive Das Ende Australian tour kicking off next Friday (11 August), Melbourne’s Void Of Vision have returned with a surprise banger that signals a whole new era for the band – one that’s not quite metal or human – in Angel Of Darkness.

Following a few cryptic posts on social media, Void Of Vision didn’t keep fans waiting for long, unveiling the 90s sci-fi-influenced music video for Angel Of Darkness, which you can watch below.

Initially teased on Sunday, the creepy video with a voice-over robotic voice said:

WITNESSES:

The human body known as Jack Bergin has been chosen for ascension.

I will be communicating on his behalf.

You won’t believe what happens next.

In observance,

your Angel of Darkness.

Angel Of Darkness marks their poppiest outing to date. Void Of Vision followed up the Chronicles trilogy, finalised earlier this year, with a track that’s a bit of Northlane’s Obsidian, a dash of The Prodigy, and even some 30 Seconds To Mars in the verses. Vocalist Jack Bergin shows off smooth singing alongside crunchy, heavy instrumentals.

Void Of Vision, not content with a new song and the emergence of fresh visuals and sound, also teased: “You won’t believe what happens next”.

Angel Of Darkness is the band’s first new track since Bergin announced that he’d take a break from music for a “short period” after treating a “brain AVM that ruptured” – arteriovenous malformations are tangles of blood vessels that cause abnormal artery-to-vein connections. If they rupture, an AVM can cause brain damage or a stroke.

Bergin explained in a social media statement, “Haven't necessarily kept quiet about my health the past few years, but I also haven't actively had to make it all public until now, when it unfortunately interferes with what I do for a living.”

He continued, “For the past week I've been in hospital, beginning radio surgery to prematurely treat a brain AVM that ruptured last week. I've been living under the impression that I'd be able to handle touring/day to day life with this since I had it diagnosed and have definitely found out the hard way that I can't anymore.

“I will be taking a step back from music on the other side of all this for a short period of time, until everything is back under control.”

While the band cancelled their appearances at UNIFY: Off The Record in May and June, their Das Ende tour will go on. You can find all the tour dates below.
