More Speed More Speed

Sydney's SPEED have announced their first-ever North American tour for this April, with stops in Brooklyn, New York; Baltimore, Maryland; Atlanta, Georgia; Tampa, Florida; Chicago, Illinois; Detroit, Minnesota, and a stop in Canada in Toronto, Ontario.

As Brooklyn Vegan reports, the hardcore outfit announced and subsequently sold out their New York City debut with their showcase at Flatspot World in Brooklyn. SPEED will be joined by Kharma, Raw Brigade, Regulate, and Soul Blind on their US tour.

SPEED just opened for Turnstile across Australia in sold-out shows at the Forum in Melbourne, Sydney's Big Top and Enmore Theatre and Brisbane's Fortitude Music Hall. We can't necessarily predict the future, but 2023 looks like another massive year for SPEED.

UK fans can also catch them at the hardcore festival Outbreak at Depot Mayfield, Manchester. They're on a line-up headlined by Denzel Curry and Death Grips and featuring Code Orange, Converge, Trapped Under Ice, Defeater, Jesus Piece, Soul Glo and many more.

In a gig review of Turnstile and SPEED at the Forum, Forte Mag's Alex Callan wrote, "Speed not only marked themselves as the new leaders of our hardcore scene but as one of the most exciting acts that Australia has to offer."

Vocalist Jem Siow formed SPEED in 2019 following the quiet breakup of Endless Heights. The band released their debut EP, Gang Called Speed, in June last year.

The EP saw the band embrace their mission statement of putting Australian hardcore on the map and tracked journeys through the bandmates taking ownership of their identities. The band rally against intolerance and call out racism, xenophobia and toxic masculinity in the hardcore scene.

In November, SPEED returned with another unifying banger, One Blood We Bleed, which definitely opened up the pits on the recent Turnstile tour. The band bring tons of energy and aggressiveness found in hardcore punk but with messages of solidarity. The music video was filmed between Los Angeles and Sydney in just three takes - the group are having a wicked time, as they should be.

UPDATE FRIDAY 3 MARCH 2023: SPEED are about to sell out their first-ever US tour.
