Kruelty Vocalist Tatami Departs The Band, Replaced By Guitarist Zuma

Tatami, the vocalist of the Tokyo death/hardcore crossover outfit Kruelty, has left the band. He’s been replaced by guitarist Zuma, who’s taking over lead vocal duties.

Zuma wrote on Instagram yesterday (28 June), “I’m doing guitar and vocals means I am the singer now. How do I express this situation in English correctly? Lol. Like Crowbar or Nails. I’m practicing hard now for the N. American tour.

“So unfortunately, our original singer Tatami has quit the band as the schedule or attitude of us got too serious for him and he doesn’t want to tour anymore that is not acceptable for us.”

The band’s North American tour begins on 11 July. Earlier this year, Kruelty joined NSW/ACT group Honest Crooks on tour across Australia and New Zealand.

"I'm super pumped - really excited to meet Kruelty. I want to show them a really good time so that they want to keep coming back to Australia," Honest Crooks vocalist Brodie Graham said in a recent Kill Your Stereo interview.

Since releasing their 2020 debut full-length, A Dying Truth and EP, Immortal Nightmare, Kruelty have made waves in heavy music scenes with their self-proclaimed "disgusting music". 

Before then, the band had put out a string of demos, splits, singles, and an EP, Phøbia, in 2018.

In their short time as a band, Kruelty have received coverage on Unite Asia, Exclaim, New Noise Magazine, Brooklyn Vegan, hate5six and more outlets dedicated to discovering heavy music from around the globe. They also already have a page on the Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives. In March, they released their second album, Untopia. You can listen to the album here.

Zuma told Kill Your Stereo about what he’s like in the studio: "But once I grabbed the guitar, then I’m getting serious as fuck. I’m dedicating everything of myself to Kruelty, the scene in Japan, and some other projects of mine, so I have to be serious."
