It was absolutely Saturday Night Fever at The Triffid for The Plot In You's Swan Song tour date, alongside prog-metalcore legends Erra and local bretheren Deadlights. A flawless night of metalcore and alternative goodness.
Not just a nostalgic experience, but better than ever.
The End of the Financial Year and Metalcore don't usually go hand in hand, but 30th June in Brisbane held MANY an EOFY special last night at The Fortitude Music Hall, with Windwaker, Motionless in White and I Prevail utterly bringing the house down.
We came, we saw, we worshipped. Northlane's Obsidian album tour wrapped up with a completely sold-out Tivoli show in Brisbane, and the vibe could not have been higher. This was one of those nights where the venue was full from as soon as alt. took the stage and it never let up.
Well, there's been a few contenders that have happened this year already, but genuinely, this New Music Friday RULES hard.
Music has always been a HUGE part of Stranger Things, since season 1. Setting the show in the 1980's was a stroke of genius by The Duffer Brothers. The ability to set the scene and year by real-world events and song releases means that it puts the viewer directly into that era and keeps it as real-to-life as sci-fi-horror gets. As the 80s has drawn on in years throughout, they have been most recently been able to draw on the thrash metal phase & satanic panic... let's dive into that new trailer.
If you saw the first promo video for Good Things Festival *hyping* the festival line-up announcement and heard Electric Callboy as the soundtrack to the video and got V E R Y excited because it meant that their inclusion on the line-up was pretty much a foregone conclusion at that point... join the club! We chatted with Nico and Kevin from the band about their VERY first trip to Australia for Good Things Festival...
Killswitch Engage frontman Jesse Leach chatted with Kill Your Stereo about the recent release of their Live at the Palladium Concert blu-ray, vinyl/album release.
The new single is called Body Bag - and frankly, chuck me in one and zip it up, we are dead. It's from a new album called True Power out August 19 through Fearless Records/Virgin Music Australia.
I mean, everyone knows by now that Courtney LaPlante, singer/vocalist of Spiritbox was in iwrestledabearonce prior to being in Spiritbox. But what about the band BEFORE that? It was named after Transformers baddie, the devourer of worlds, UNICRON - and all three bands also feature Mike Stringer, her now husband!
This can only mean one thing, right? NEW SPIRITBOX INBOUND, SURELY. Not only that, they brought out 9 year old Harper who performed their single Holy Roller on America's Got Talent on stage with them in London! AMAZING!
Pricey sat down for a zoom call chat with Luke and Jason from Sunk Loto about their reformation, their band legacy and their upcoming sold-out shows - and the prospect of new tunes from Sunk Loto!
HELL, it's been what, 2 hours since the line-up dropped? LET'S TALK. Already, we have our top 10 picks for what will likely be the highlights of the day - and WE WANT TO LET YOU KNOW.
Well, hot damn! Good Things Festival 2022 has officially dropped the line-up for December 2022 tour dates in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne - and straight up, we have headliners who have dropped two of the biggest rock and metal records in the past few years, we've got punk royalty, we've got bands re-forming to play classic material, and a tonne of Aussie acts to round it out, all that and more - YA LOVE TO SEE IT!
So, yeah. As someone who grew up listening to metal and also having a Mother who was an intense fan of Kenny G, this is a mash-up I honestly N E V E R thought I would see. It was weird enough for me seeing Kenny G play on a Katy Perry song and appearing in the filmclip. On the other hand, I LOVE me a saxophone solo or section in a heavy song, so it's actually not a stretch to just go to THE guy for saxophone to play your solo.
GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT… GOOD THINGS FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES ITS RETURN IN DECEMBER 2022! The Good Things Festival 2022 line-up will be announced at 10am AEST time on Wednesday 15 June - and once again take place in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne!
Seriously, can people just not? Tilian from Dance Gavin Dance has had to address and respond to a few claims of sexual misconduct and inappropriate behaviour - and regardless of guilt or innocence, we just want this kind of behaviour to stop, regardless of gender of perpetrators and victims.
P!ATD’s seventh studio album arrives August 19 via Fueled by Ramen/DCD2 – and they’ve also released the title track “Viva Las Vengeance” song + video. Paint those nails, break out the eyeliner and straightening iron, it was never just a phase!
If you've managed to cop the new season of 'Stranger Things' yet, you will have met Eddie Munson. He's the head of the Hellfire Club, he's a metalhead, he's a little cowardly at first, but he's really coming into his own by the end of the season - and a vital member of the older teenage Scooby gang. He's proved his worth and he literally dove into a hellgate. He's repping metalheads to the world at large right now - and he's showing that the 'Satanic Panic' of the 80's was so unfounded!
Linkin Park have been around now for 20+ years, they've been through the CD era, the Napster Era, the black hole between P2P and then iTunes/digital purchases, the Myspace era, the advent of smart phones and now into the streaming and hyper-social media era. So when someone like Mike Shinoda, one of the vocalists for Linkin Park, an artist and a pretty great business person all round, has some words to say around how artists are being treated, probably best to have a listen.
