More Tyga More Tyga

During DJ Hancoq's opening set we hear classic hip hop and R&B anthems. Next on the bill, former X-Factor contestant, Sydney rapper Lazy J, performs well, ignoring audience heckles labelling him a “try-hard Drake”. Backed by his crew, the young rapper performs songs from The Dream EP and ends his set with upcoming single Flexin.

Before DJ Horizon can start his set, a hypeman arrives onstage to warn us about “technical difficulties”. Once these “difficulties” are resolved, DJ Horizon goes on to play crowd pleasers from artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Missy Elliot, Eve, Ludacris, Savage, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg and Biggie Smalls. After DJ Horizon's set another DJ continues to spin. After her set, the crowd suffers through more technical difficulties during which Tyga's tour DJ, DJSB attempts to set up his equipment for a good 15 minutes. The audience grows increasingly frustrated and starts to boo and throw things toward the stage.

At around 11.45pm, Tyga finally takes the stage. The 24-year-old rapper starts out with tracks from his third album Hotel California including Dope, Show You and Get Loose. He then continues on with his own cuts Rack City, Make It Nasty and Lap Dance as well as tracks containing verses he has provided for other hip hop artists such as Versace (Migos), BedRock (Young Money Entertainment), Deuces and Loyal (Chris Brown), plus his reworked sample of Bitch Betta Have My Money (AMG). There is even an ode to the West Coast (where the YMCMB rapper hails from) where DJSB drops Tupac's Ambitionz Az A Ridah. It's a nice touch, especially considering none of the other DJs spin a nod to Tupac.

One thing that really stands out about Tyga is the way he speaks to his audience. He thanks his Melbourne fans numerous times, even inviting a whole bunch of girls up on stage to dance during Do My Dance towards the end of his set. Tyga closes with crowd favourite Molly before DJSB plays some trap to signify the show's over.
