More The Lazy Susans More The Lazy Susans

People listening to Now That The Party’s Over may be disappointedWell, new fans will be at least – they'll kick themselves for not experiencing the power of The Lazy Susans until now. The album is magic, poignant and broody. It somehow leaves you feeling serene, sometimes thrilled, due to the authentic and prevailing talent from the band.

Goosebumps and awe are likely symptoms upon hearing this record. There is a striking vulnerability in Antonia Susan’s voice, often shifting from delicate to powerhouse. If I Hurt You stands out for its candid lyricism – "I don’t want you to think I’m a monster/Even though I am" – alongside some of the band’s cleanest music. Nice Bones sees a turnaround in sound and emotion – a bitter and unapologetic goodbye: "What gives you the right to say I’m wrong/When all I did was love someone different to you?" Final track Joy is a tale of love lost due to life getting in the way that’ll stop you in your tracks"Find what fills you with joy and hold on till you die/That’s the answer to having a good life" feels gut-wrenching after the opening line, "I want you to know/I miss you more each day."

The party is far from over for the Melbourne-based emo/pop-rock band as they nail their debut record. While The Lazy Susans are predominantly a festival or support act at the moment, it seems like they're destined for headline slots thanks to the release of these 13 heart-stopping songs.
