"'Whatever It Takes' employs simple, classic songwriting and a rock-solid band to support it."

True to form, the Daptone family continues to release genuine, quality soul music - and the latest release from the UK singer James Hunter is no exception.

Whatever It Takes employs simple, classic songwriting and a rock-solid band to support it. Hunter's style is an amalgamation of great influences - with the phrasing of Sam Cooke, but the attitude of Wilson Pickett or Otis Redding. Particularly notable in the songwriting are the artful horn arrangements, which drive the songs forwards in many places with strong, deliberate melody and harmonic conviction.
