"Not only every bit as fantastically soulful as its brothers and sisters, it is also on par with its predecessors and inspirations."

The latest release from the infallible Daptone Records family is not only every bit as fantastically soulful as its brothers and sisters, it is also on par with its predecessors and inspirations.

The James Hunter Six make a formidable entrance into the Daptone family with Hold On!, Hunter's voice somewhere between Otis Redding's raw power and Sam Cooke's class. The rhythm horn sections of the band have so much groove it practically hurts, and the songs are some of the most well-written neo-soul numbers of recent years.
