Album Review: Stillwater Giants - Munich

"The explosive, chiming guitars that made these guys really special are now seriously reigned in and quite low in the mix."

If you're onto a good thing, stick with it.

Clearly Perth four-piece Stillwater Giants didn't read the memo. Having delivered two of the best local EPs you're ever likely to hear in 2011 and 2012 respectively, they've toned down pretty much everything for debut album Munich. Fortunately they did retain their gift for melody and the first five tracks here especially, Help You Out and Secret Agent are gorgeous little power pop moments. But the explosive, chiming guitars that made these guys really special are now seriously reigned in and quite low in the mix and after a four-year wait to unveil their debut, this represents a serious lost opportunity for greatness.
