"This is an artist that knows the pop history in her deliberately echoey sounds."

More Sloan Peterson More Sloan Peterson

As the '60s girl group harmonies and twangy guitars drop in behind, it'd be easy to find some Lana Del Rey-ish retro conceit to what Sloan Peterson does.

But it's not so contrived. This is an artist that knows the pop history in her deliberately echoey sounds. She's not the girl sitting at the malt shop waiting for Johnny to come back from his surf: Good News Day knows that boy is a bragging sleaze, and Peterson's 21st century enough to tell him, while I Want You is well aware of how much piss is being taken.
