Album Review: Sepultura - Machine Messiah

A fresh Sepultura record can be a tough sell for some metal devotees; arriving amidst mid-January's new release wasteland doesn't boost the Brazilian veterans' cause either.

Irrespective, although many didn't bother investigating, the quartet have been in respectable form lately. Their latest isn't exactly wall-to-wall bangers, but it offers a solid exercise in visceral heavy metal. The slow-burning opening title track effectively segues into I Am The Enemy's sharp, blunt thrash. Derrick Green's barrel-chested roar remains a potent force and Andreas Kisser delivers a fittingly stellar solo on Cyber God. There's even a brass section incorporated. Sepultura's dogged determination and conviction keeps propelling them forward.
