"Segression’s approach remains distinctively crushing"

More Segression More Segression

Veteran Wollongong metallers are angrier than a hungover Incredible Hulk. Painted… recalls early glories, albeit with an updated sheen and fresh personnel ensuring they unleash their heaviest fare yet.

Cuts like Grounded take cues from ‘90s groove bruisers Stuck Mojo and Biohazard’s neck-snapping rhythmic attack. The songs also infuse chugging, breakdown-heavy muscle and modern metalcore dressing, fleshed out by frantic soloing and Chris Rand’s harsher vocals. The title track and Scar Me Now don’t neglect a memorable hook within the bludgeoning. In a scene bloated by easily-packaged sound-alikes, Segression’s approach remains distinctively crushing.
