Album Review: Scaramouche Welcome To The Parlour

Comprised of grinding riffs, bass hooks, vacuous lyrics and the occasional guitar solo, Welcome To The Parlour is another superfluous exercise in revamping '90s hard rock.

Comprised of grinding riffs, bass hooks, vacuous lyrics and the occasional guitar solo, Welcome To The Parlour is another superfluous exercise in revamping '90s hard rock. Typically yowling vocals punctuate the searing rock stylings of Over The Wall, while follow-up, Only For Your Eyes – partially spiced up with a dose of roughness – serves as the EP's token marathon rock ballad. Unfortunately the combined effort of these four clearly talented musicians relies on an overused, hairy-rock veneer, which is no longer particularly fresh or exciting in recorded form. They play at The Espy on 20 Nov.
