"For all of its supposed interests in the now, 'Woodstock' feels more like a rehash of old ideas and recycled nostalgia."

More Portugal. The Man More Portugal. The Man

Woodstock is a typical Portugal. The Man. patchwork of moods, genres and textures, but it is also, unambiguously, a pop album.

For their eighth studio release, the band samples all that modern radio has to offer in what seems like a hope to court radio waves and bigger audiences. The album's sound appears to be forward looking, but Woodstock's single Feel It Still gives it away: "Is it coming back?" singer John Gourley asks. For all of its supposed interests in the now, Woodstock feels more like a rehash of old ideas and recycled nostalgia.
