Album Review: Nine Sons Of Dan - Follow The Blood

This lively, glossy offering comprises vaguely melodic pop-punk with moments of cinematic strings. Despite the dark veneer of emotional heaviness, the slower title track recalls melodramatic stylings of worn-out mainstream acts such as Maroon 5. Contrasting with frontman Jay Bainbridge's whiny vocals, his line, “Stay up all night/Screaming til it hurts never felt so right,” illustrates their brand of hackneyed, youth-centric lyrics. In a shrewdly market-savvy manner, the band's silly, self-absorbed sentiments perpetuate the irritating faux angst depicted in teen culture. They play at Wrangler Studios on 7 June.
