There’s no question that Marketa Irglova is an extraordinary musician and composer – it isn’t just anyone that wins an Academy Award for co-writing a song at the age of 19.

Yet, while the songs on Muna are layered with intricate detail and boast an orchestral sound, there isn’t anything that is likely to truly engage listeners until Phoenix in the latter third of the album. Inspired by her belief in God, the religious overtones on Muna probably won’t help Marketa broaden her fanbase either. Nonetheless, closer This Right Here is an undisputedly lovely track.
