"Last Dinosaurs and their happy-go-lucky performance leave us with our spirits high and their songs embedded in our heads."

More Last Dinosaurs More Last Dinosaurs

After the successful release of single Eleven, Brisbane indie-rock band Last Dinosaurs return home for an intimate and sold-out show at The Foundry.

Opening this lovely Wednesday evening are Byron Bay four-piece Seaside, a dream-pop band that capture the audience with not only their extremely catchy tunes but also their humbleness and constant crowd interaction. Smashing through tracks from their older EPs, they also cover Hey by Pixies - initial scepticism aside, credit needs to be given where credit is due as they absolutely own it. Ending with a strong finish, new track Golden Girls sets the mood high for Last Dino’s to take the stage.

When you have an intimate venue and sold-out show, you get no goddamn room, but somehow it makes this show that bit better. Last Dinosaurs have been around since 2009 and it is evident that everyone spilling out of the venue is a long-time fan.

Wasting no time, the first chords of Eleven are played and all in unison “If I lose my head I’m sorry!” is shouted throughout the venue. It could be the intimacy of standing on top of each other or it could just be the band, but as soon as they start to play, there is such a high energy that engulfs the entire audience. The band dives into a cover/medley of Breathe by Prodigy and 2000s classic Move Your Feet by Junior Senior. A confusing mash of songs that well and truly works in their favour as it oozes fun.

As a special treat, they play new tracks off their upcoming album, showcasing not only the growth that they have had as a band, but the individual musical talent each member has. With a curated set list playing what their audience wants, there is not a single track that is not a singalong and there isn't a still body in sight.

As the 60-minute set comes to an end, crowd favourites Zoom and Dominos are played followed by an encore performance of Andy. Last Dinosaurs and their happy-go-lucky performance leave us with our spirits high and their songs embedded in our heads. What a band, what a set!
