"The throwback yet modern soul singer trend still feels so often like an Amy Winehouse imitation."

The debut album from Brisbane powerhouse vocalist Grace is quite a big deal —  released via RCA, it features her UK and Australian chart-topping Quincy Jones-produced single You Don't Own Me, and comes with bags of top-level R&B production.

It's a lot of album, but the throwback-yet-modern soul singer trend still feels so often like an Amy Winehouse imitation rather than something original, we should probably just accept it. How To Love Me shows a bit of nuance whereas songs like Crazy Over Here bombard the listener with production and vocal. It will be a big album, but of her peers, Alessia Cara is the one with a sly edge.
