"If 'Future' was for his day-one fans, 'HNDRXX' is aimed at a wider audience."

As promised, HNDRXX ("Hendrix", a reference to his rock star alter ego) arrives exactly a week after the release of his self-titled album, and the timing makes sense in light of the music.

If Future was for his day-one fans, HNDRXX is aimed at a wider audience. Singing as much as he raps, Future dives headlong into a more R&B-influenced sound, reminiscent of the latest from Drake or Travis Scott. Of course, those artists have had a few tries at it now, and the songwriting here needs work. But HNDRXX packs a few surprises, and offers hope that a mix of the trap bangers he's known for and melodic soul can yield results.
