Live Review: Digitalism - Villa

I used to believe that Perth nightlife was over-glorified. After living in Europe for a year I've experienced my fair share of late nights, though I was surprised to again find the inspiration for welcoming the rising sun last Friday. The entire night was a superb fusing of melodic house, carefully crafted minimalistic electro, rhythmic vocals and heavy, distorted basslines, making for a body-pumping atmosphere. Makitan opened up the night with people flooding in early. A steady dose of high energy house and electro got the mood going, with the atmosphere increasing as the crowd continued to flock in. By the time Ace Basik got to play, both downstairs and upstairs were open and the crowd had generated a good buzz. This is where Ace Basik used heavy basslines and rhythmic vocals to get the crowd moving.

The anticipation and arrival of Digitalism was met with both excitement and disbelief, much of the crowd surprised that the extremely young looking Jens could in fact be an actual member of Digitalism. Captivation instantly took over as both Jens and Isi took control of the night. Enthralling the sold-out crowd with their distorted basslines and minimalistic electro keeping the crowd constantly moving and jumping to their entire set, an absolute climax at the end of their set achieved when they brought to life Pogo. The crowd exploded with everyone in the sold-out club moving and jumping to the sounds of Digitalism.

Adrian Lux followed Digitalism's enthralling performance and maintained the club's atmosphere with his catchy rhythmic tunes and showcasing his DJ ability. Closing the night was Kill Dyl, who managed to keep a large majority of Digitalism-based crowd partying on to very early hours of the morning.
