Album Review: Devin Townsend Project - Transcendence

Devin Townsend is harking back to Deconstruction in terms of scope and execution, while his production and songwriting skills only continue to get better, making Transcendence a densely layered masterpiece.

The first two tracks build up to lead single Failure, where small touches such as the melty vocal note at 1:15 show Townsend's attention to detail. Secret Sciences is full of Townsend's weird personality, and Higher features a superbly unique breakdown that flows seamlessly into the bridge. Offer Your Light features excellent guest vocals from Anneke van Giersbergen before the album closes, leaving a lasting impression of greatness.
