It's interesting to see DOD's comedy develop across Australian shows - in 2012, it was largely song-based; in 2014, it was a strong combination of both stand-up and songs on his trusty Yamaha keyboard; and in 2016, the songs seem to play second fiddle to his much stronger stand-up material.

He also seems to be in a better place this year - the self-deprecation and undercurrent of sadness of 2014's show has been replaced by a sense of hope, as he talks about marriage equality in Ireland, protein powder mixed with wine, and Grand Designs. He's still as clever and wry as ever, and there's still a bit of mocking humour at his own expense, but overall it's a light-hearted approach. David O'Doherty deserves all the laughs he gets — and there's a lot. A joy.
