It becomes clear he can handle himself in an “intimate” setting and he’s able to work the crowd, involving the audience in bits about annoying Facebook photos, pretentious coffee drinkers and placenta face cream.

Darren Freak is not expecting an audience of five when he steps out on stage to perform his opening song at St Kilda's Felix Bar. Unfazed by the turnout, he urges everyone to move to the seats at the front of the stage and dives into his act. It becomes clear he can handle himself in an “intimate” setting and he's able to work the crowd, involving the audience in bits about annoying Facebook photos, pretentious coffee drinkers and placenta face cream. It's here that Freak really shines.
Unfortunately this is a musical comedy show and the songs don't always hit the mark. While they are never too long, they often fail to live up to their lead-in gags and this inconsistency made the show feel like it drags.
Despite this, Darren Freaks Out is a show that's bound to make you laugh and occasionally squirm in your seat.
