Live Review: Clubfeet

Clubfeet’s last song, their new single Everything You Wanted, is a bit of a fizzer.

Ding Dong is completely filled for Clubfeet and singer-guitarist Sebastian Cohen happily announces that their hometown show is a sell out a short way into the set. Clubfeet's name is a strong indicator as to the desired effect of their music, although opener Cape Town is slightly underwhelming. This is soon rectified as their next offering increases the  bounce in the crowd – who are very vocal in their appreciation – and the temperature in Ding Dong is becoming as tropical as Clubfeet's music.

The audience moves as one throughout this middle section of the set and the love continues to grow as the bubbly Chela is warmly invited back to the stage (she opened proceedings earlier in the night), to perform her part in the popular duet that is Heartbreak. The song works and is well received, although it feels similar to Empire Of The Sun's Walking On A Dream. The crowd give it up for Chela and Clubfeet launch into an acoustic number, which is totally out of whack with the rest of their set.

Last Words is a positive upbeat tune, and a highlight of the set; the dancefloor is swinging and the room is filled to the peripheries. Clubfeet's last song, their new single Everything You Wanted, is a bit of a fizzer. Everything is in its right place, the band are tight and the crowd absorbed, but the number lacks any real edge and is too slow for its own good. It does have a damn catchy chorus though (think Passion Pit). The crowd, however, is very appreciative and Cohen declares, reasonably, that he is speechless.
