Live Review: Chase City, Tropical Zombie, The Saxons

Whenever the Tassie boys get together for a gig at the Republic you can almost guarantee it's going to be a good night. Kicking things off were Launceston boys The Saxons, doing the rounds of their last home shows before heading off to play a selection shows on the mainland over the next month. With their light-hearted and fun indie-pop sound, they were a crowd pleaser as always.

Taking the stage next was Tropical Zombie, a six-piece hailing from New South Wales. The crowd, made up of young and old alike, were all up on their feet and dancing the night away. With a funky fresh reggae-punk sound, the crowd was caught up in the sound of the bass and the bongo drums, letting the rhythm take over.

By the time Chase City took the stage, the crowd was well and truly warmed up and ready to show the local Hobart boys a good time. The floor was the perfect amount of sticky and just the right number of pint glasses had been smashed. Due to an incident that left drummer Michael Snape with a broken arm and unable to play, he took to the stage with other percussion instruments such as the tambourine so as not to miss out on the fun. For their last hometown headliner in a little while, the boys certainly bought their A-game. Mixing it up with a nice range of originals and a few covers such as the old favourite and sure crowd pleaser, The Wombats' Jump Into The Fog, there was variety enough to keep everyone happy.

At the end of the night everyone left feeling all danced out but ready to do it all again next time the boys decide to have a house party and invite all their friends at the Republic Bar. A close intimate affair and, in true Tassie style, a big party made up of old friends and new friends, the night was a success and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
