Interesting, but unsuccessful venture…

More Bring Me The Horizon More Bring Me The Horizon

Rather than opting for the normal covers/live cd to tie them over until the next release, Bring Me the Horizon has tried their hand at a project few in the metal community would openly venture into. Suicide Season – Cut Up is 14 tracks taken from their hugely successful Suicide Season release and rejiggered and tranced up by a number of different artists/DJS from Tek One to Shawn “Clown” Crahan of Slipknot.

The albums premise is promising, but doesn’t really feel as though it’s executed to full effect and sounds more like Oli Sykes has been dubbed into the latest Ministry of Sound sessions album rather than the actually music of Suicide Season remixed. Some of the remix’s did come out huge; the Ian Watkins remix of It Was Written in Blood came out sounding like UK Drum and Bass (beauty!)

There are few other gems scattered along the track listing, Tek One transcribed a grim as version of Sleep with One Eye open and The Comedown gets a nice makeover. The track taken on by Ben Weinman from The Dillinger Escape Plan is, as expected, hectic and cool as fuck. My take on dance music is limited so you will have to make do with this extremely vague description.

Taking into account the amount of effort the band put into getting away from the image which appeared to be set in stone with Count Your Blessings, it seems like an exceptionally bizarre movement to release something that %90 of your fan base are not going to be keen on and will only serve to confuse them as to the bands direction.

Suicide Season was catchy, huge and aggressive. The Cut Up version is not.
