Live Review: Bicep

After Friday’s efforts we can safely say Bicep were correct when they told us “You will definitely have to bring a towel; it’ll get sweaty”.

More Bicep More Bicep

RTRFM were lucky enough to score a 10 minute time slot with the Bicep boys, who managed to discuss everything from their record collection to the importance of clean eating whilst touring. The major topic of discussion though was their never ending learning curve of the art of Djing: “I played six or seven years before I started DJing to a crowd, and I'm still learning”. The dedication and passion the boys had for music was adamant on the night, in a three hour long set that truly took the audience on a ride through time. Gym equipment was scattered across the room, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno's perfect shoulder to waist ratio flexed on the projector screen; headbands, short shorts and sweat towels galore; this was the perfect set up for a Bicep gig.

J'amez Bruine kicked things off with some funky bass music before Ben Taaffe took to the decks in a similar style, only getting funkier in his song selection. The Monarchy DJs then paired up, laying down some groovy disco house medleys, before the {move} DJs took over; the perfect predecessor to the boys that are Bicep. Mustering up a new sense of urgency in the crowd, the dance floor filled right up, and grooved out to the sounds of '90s house. Meanwhile over at the outside terrace, MZ JO, Donna Kebabey, Doepel and Rex Monsoon shared bassy flavours of sorts, the perfect option for a slight change of pace. Bicep took to the decks at about 1am, displaying their infamous crowd reading charm as the set progressed.

From classic house to techno and UK Funky, Bicep tore it up, bouncing off the crowd's energy with unmatched expertise, never failing to show any signs of slowing down throughout the entire three hour epic. Their own classic '90s house throwback hit from last year Vision of Love served as a definite crowd pleaser, and had  hard bodies getting down from every corner of the venue. Midnight Mike then went back to back with Clunk with a masterfully conclusive performance in the wee hours of the morning, dishing up a set full of classic house and R&B bombshells. After Friday's efforts we can safely say Bicep were correct when they told us “You will definitely have to bring a towel; it'll get sweaty”.
