It is true what they say: the night is darkest before the dawn, and this year, Halloween will truly be a night to remember. As the heavy rain falls, the stage is truly set for Gotham City to face its darkest night. An army has descended on the city for the final assault and all that stands between Gotham and utter annihilation is one man. But he is no ordinary man... He's The Batman.

Scarecrow has taken control of the city and plans to unleash his toxin upon all of Gotham and watch it tear itself apart through fear, but he is not alone on his campaign for destruction, having joined forces with a mysterious new villain known only as the Arkham Knight who is leading an army to the gates of Gotham.

This is the game that Batman fans have been waiting for and it's the one they deserve. The open world formula has once again returned but now spans over three gigantic islands littered with the Arkham Knight's forces all tasked with one mission: "It's simple... we kill the Batman."

The challenges that lie ahead are not for the faint of heart. With the Arkham Knight declaring war on Gotham you're going to need to get yourself some firepower. Thankfully old Brucey is a rather resourceful man and for the first time in the Arkham franchise you'll take control of the Batmobile and bring the fight to the frontline. Rocksteady have done a fantastic job incorporating the Batmobile into all areas of gameplay — from combat to puzzle solving — and, trust us, you're going to need it. The hand-to-hand combat remains as fluid as ever and the team at Rocksteady have introduced another level of combat options from environmental take-downs, dual take-downs and, our personal favorite, "The Fear Take-down".

The main campaign spans roughly 12—15 hours but there are loads of side missions to keep you busy if you want to savour the final showdown and bask in the glory of Rocksteady's final masterpiece. On the other hand if you're a crimefighting enthusiast, Rocksteady has announced loads of DLC coming up over the next six months so there are plenty more opportunities to give the scum of Gotham a public flogging. Whether you're a seasoned veteran of the previous titles or a newcomer, this is simply a game that every Batman fan must have.

And in case you were wondering... Yes, the Batmobile does come in black.
