A sweaty playground of quirkiness

More Basenji More Basenji

In celebration of his fresh release, Heirloom, Basenji has been hitting clubs nationwide, including a stop at little ol’ Adelaide for Rocket Bar’s Friday club night, Cats. The single was released through Future Classic after a busy year for Sebastian Carlos.

Walking into Rocket, someone, possibly a resident DJ, was already on the stage decks. Whoever he was he deserved more than the two girls dancing like chickens to his smooth grooves and crunchy hooks. Although it was more entertaining watching the two babes chicken dance front and centre than seeing him regularly on his phone.

Taylor .245 was a returning support for Basenji, having joined him earlier this year, for his Cats appearance. For good reason, Taylor has two feet starting to firmly stand in the local scene. One hundred per cent bangers and drops-galore from the local trap DJ who started to get the now growing crowd pumping.

It’s pretty rare to see a musician, or more specifically a producer, choosing to move from any other Australian capital city to Adelaide. Lucky for us that’s exactly what D.Y.P has decided to and what a treat indeed. For those unfamiliar, this guy makes tunes so smooth even meeting up at Macca’s is sexy, and tonight had the now packed room working up a sweat and pumped for the main act. One to be keeping an eye on around town – don’t be thinking you can claim him back Perth.

Kicking it with artist buds like Wave Racer and Cosmo’s Midnight sure has influenced the sound of the night’s main act, but the synths and samples had Basenji stamped all over them. The quirkiness of his sounds made for a set that made Rocket Bar feel like the sweatiest playground on the block. Heirloom was embraced by the crowd just as Dawn had previously with its similar mix of euphoric and playful vibe that were an absolute joy to dance to. Only onwards and upwards for this young pup.
