More Babaganouj More Babaganouj

Brisbane band Babaganouj continue to build their brand of bubblegum pop-rock, reaching for new heights of saccharine excess with their latest EP, Pillar Of Light.

The release features a rotating cast of band members taking turns on vocals, although the cheesy harmonies on Do Rite With Me Tonite and Awhile leave the songs feeling naff and even ingratiating at times. Thankfully, bassist Harriet Pilbeam's singing on Would You Like Me feels like the ultimate soundtrack to every excellent '90s teen movie ever made, and quickly sets things right again. Things unfortunately wrap up with guitar player Charles Sale's sincerest Alex Chilton impression on Dunno What To Say, as the band continue to ricochet through genres and styles.
