The opposite is true. We’ve seen it all before.

More Avril Lavigne More Avril Lavigne

On Rock n Roll we hear Avril Lavigne croon, “I don't care if I'm a misfit/I like it better than the hipster bullshit” – lyrics that would fit neatly on her 2002 monster hit, Complicated. The weight of time courses through the whole of this album as Lavigne tries desperately to recapture her glory days. Bitchin' Summer – an ode to being young and on holiday – sounds ridiculous coming as it does from a 30-year-old's lips. Sippin' On Sunshine is brutally over-sweet; sledgehammer saccharine. All this makes one track's title, You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet, grimly ironic. The opposite is true. We've seen it all before.
