Album Review: Auntie Flo - Theory Of Flo

The second LP from the Scottish DJ/producer Auntie Flo offers minimalist world-infused club tunes championing the 'Afro-futurist' sounds of acts like Four Tet and Sinkane, expanding upon 2012's highly acclaimed Future Rhythm Machine.

Holistically and happily off-trend, there's no overt pop-consciousness or pitched-up chipmunk vocals here — just groove-heavy mixes built upon percussive rhythms and primal, otherworldly vocal samples.

It's not all dancefloor moments though. The record takes eerie, ambient turns between its peaks of energy, but never long enough to kill the mood, and while there is not one typical banger in sight, Theory Of Flo remains a very danceable LP.
