Overall this record is a huge sonic step up for the band. Every track slaps super hard. There is NO chill moments its just smacking you with bangers from start to finish. Old fans and yet to be made fan's will be talking about this one for a while!

More Stand Atlantic More Stand Atlantic

My raw and unedited notes, track by track.

DOOMSDAY

Setting a vibe from the get-go, the album starts strong with a dancy moment. Despite the fact that the music is light and boppy, the lyrical content sets a heavy note from track one. The song is covering some dark themes. Given we discussed the heavy place that Bonnie was in when writing the record, you can hear she’s letting out a feeling of helplessness whilst being alone on this song. The bridge in the middle has an almost rap style vocal moment, you will notice a lot of moments like this that are unexpected on the record. Fun ways to elevate each song & delve into some exploratory moments. This is a good opener!

PITY PARTY

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

This song is explosive. I always say I love a good ‘Fuck You’ song & this has that energy in droves. Literally, the chorus is ‘fuck you & your fuckin pity party’. Love it. There’s clearly a lot that Bon wanted to say on this track. Her explosive vocals mixed with the feature from Royal & The Serpent whose vocals are softer make for an extra depth to the message they are going for on this song. We have had Pity Party for a while. It’s had HUGE success! we have had it non stop on The Faction & it’s been getting heaps of love from Triple J.

VAN GOGH

This track really encapsulates what the band have said the album is about. “It’s a f**l you to the conventional bullshit Hollywood-style story that musicians tell you fell out of their ass.” One of the stand out tracks to me from the first listen, there’s so much angst & despise on this song for fakeness. Throw your judgement & BS out the window I just want you to shut the fuck up. WHAT A VIBE! It’s tough AF to be a woman today, let alone a woman in music. Add in a woman in music in LA & far out I can feel the frustration. This song takes it all out ‘should I pull a van gogh? I’d do anything to shut you up’

DUMB

The last single we got, this one has a classic Stand Atlantic feel with softer verses and a PUNCHY chorus. We love the feature Tom The Mail Man. Honestly all the features on this record are ace. But the best part…..A KEY CHANGE IN THE LAST CHORUS. Key changes are literally the height of additions to any song. (In my very humble opinion).

HAIR OUT

A shorter song at less than 3 minutes. This track has huge 90’s rock vibes in the guitar work & is a total certified bop. It’s got a fun almost breakdown guitar moment at the end of the second verse. They also added in some completely raw vocal takes. This song is so fkn fun.

DEATHWISH

We already know how much everyone loves this song! Number 11 on the Hardest 100 last year and featuring ‘nothing, nowhere’, it’s a truly outstanding track. The way this track builds from where it starts to where it ends is pure excellence. Not to mention that it genre flips between punk rock and hip hop? Oh and the hardcore breakdown. WHAT!?

SWITCHBLADE

This track is like punk rock nu-metal’s child. It’s definitely on the heavier spectrum of what the album presents. The surprise guitar solo is a sick moment that will take you by surprise. Also a shorter track, this one’s a big big record standout moment sonically.

NAILS FROM THE BACK

This one’s so catchy. Possibly the catchiest of the record that’ll be stuck in your head long after you’ve listened. We chatted about this being one of the songs the band was most excited for everyone to hear. It navigates through softer and harder moments. Fans old and new will definitely love this one.

BLOODCLOT

Starting off on a slower note, this is a more emotional track with a slower pace. It brings a different tone & will be truly a special moment in live performances. ‘Off the rails and it’s tragic, can’t believe that I’m asking who the hell I am and how I see it out?’. If you know what it’s like to feel like a burden or not good enough, sing this song loud my homies!

DON'T TALK [TO ME]

Alright, let’s pick up the pace again gang. This is another very dancy number & will have everyone moving about a lot in a live setting. The DRUMMING on this track is next level too & sets the whole tone. The little scream at the end is an awesome addition.

XO

Another track with huge hip hop vibes in the music throughout, but has the best breakdown of the WHOLE ALBUM. I don’t even know if it’s meant to be about long-distance but that’s what I’m picking up with lyrics like ‘I’m overthinking what I don’t know’. You’ll see what I mean if you’ve ever been in that situation.

CABIN FEVER

Another musical stand out where it’s taking a different sonic avenue. This one has some super heavy lyrical content. I love the way that the pace Of the track changes with the lyrics. And the screaming breakdown is 10/10. Look who of us hasn’t experienced cabin fever in the last 2 years? I love this song the most. Number 1 for me.

MOLOTOV [OK]

Another song we know you all love! Thrashing from start to finish this track is just ace in every which way. Coming in at number 78 on the hardest 100, there’s just so much to love about this song. It’s so epic it feels like a closing track to be honest it mostly is and it’s a fucking EPIC track to end the record.

I WONDER WHAT KIND OF GARLIC BREAD THEY EAT AT MENSA

A vocal clip from the recording process to give you a lovely laff as you finish this fire record. Hell yeah, Stand Atlantic, ace job on this album.

4 STARS!
