Album Review: AFI - The Missing Man

The last time AFI released an EP was in 2001 with The Days Of The Phoenix, so it’s a little surprising that they chose to do an EP rather than an album. The five-track release takes a step back in time with its 2003 Sing The Sorrow vibes, the album that put the band on the mainstream map. 

Opener Trash Bat is a two-minute, uptempo track with roaring guitars and addictive drum beats, Davey Havok delivering killer vocals. The guitar riffs in Get Dark are insane, the track's fast-paced rhythm and Havok’s sweeping vocals proving infectious. The title track gives an alternative-rock vibe with acoustic guitars, violins and more guitars erupting at the end. It's very different to the others - not in a bad way. Back Into The Sun is probably the only track that doesn’t stand out, feeling very mediocre compared to the rest.

AFI have shown here they are not slowing down, just getting better with age.
