Album Review: United Nations - 'Never Mind the Bombings, Here's Your Six Figures'

 Mysterious screamo supergroup United Nations latest caustic, chaotic release comes in the form of a four song 7 inch from Deathwish Inc (Converge, Acid Tiger.) Nevermind the Bombings, Here’s your Six Figures showcases Rickly's temporal melodic and chaotic side, that which would not fit in with the regular Thursday sessions.

Opener Pity Animal has it all, Rickly's raspy, jagged scream and occasionally more melodic, fractured yelp; lightning-quick drum fills; and a muffled spoken-word part. While the next two tracks O You Bright & Risen Angels and Communication Letdown feels like filler tracks, it’s really the title track, Never mind the Bombings, Here’s Your Six Figures that really sets it apart from the rest of the EP.

It seems like the members of United Nations sans Geoff Rickly are in some sort Fight Club-esque type of arrangement, that being, The first rule of United Nations is to not talk about United Nations.; the other band members are in some sort of secret oath where they must not reveal themselves, although members like Jonah Bayer (The Lovekill), Daryl Palumbo (Glassjaw, Head Automatica) and Ben Koller (Converge) have been hinted, or revealed unintentionally.

 According to vocalist Geoff Rickly, the EP comes from the same sessions as the self titled release, which is no surprise as the release feels like an extra of b-side tracks, while being solid in themselves. However this shouldn’t deter you from picking this up.
