If I’d known Limbeck bass player

Justin Entsminger had such a cracking beard then I would’ve checked

his band out a long time ago. Apart from the excellent facial hair being

sported by various members, Limbeck have crafted an album of pop infused

rock songs.

Australian audiences may remember

the band from their support slot with Kiss Chasy last year, and after

hearing this record I sincerely regret not checking Limbeck out sooner.

Album opener “Trouble” is

a mid paced jam with a plodding bass line and some really smooth backing

harmonies. The chorus hook is instantly memorable and one which you’ll

be singing along to long after you’ve turned the record off.

“Let Me Come” has a really

classic American feel to it – upbeat tempo, washy guitars and a slightly

raspy vocal delivery make it one of the record’s strongest tracks.

The laid back guitar solo that makes an appearance in the song’s bridge

is fucking cool as well.

While some of the tunes on “Limbeck”

have an almost Brit-Pop feel to them, it’s the raw, upbeat songs which

stand as the album’s strongest. “Keepin It Busy”, with its straightforward

instrumentation and sparse melodies, is another standout on an already

consistent record. “Wake Up” doesn’t even sound like it was created

by a band in the year 2007 – Gold 104 would happily slot this tune

into high rotation – but again, Limbeck make it work!

To sweeten the deal, the local

release of “Limbeck” includes 2 extra tracks, which haven’t just

been thrown together – both are excellent songs in their own right

and compliment the vibe of the overall record really well.

I get the feeling that a Limbeck

show would be a hell of a lot of fun, so I’m eagerly anticipating

a tour announcement from these guys! Oh yeah, buy this record!
