Spotify has launched a new feature that allows users to purchase concert tickets directly from the app.
While the company has yet to announce the service publicly, users can already purchase tickets to select events from a link on participating artists' profiles. A landing page for 'tickets' is also live on the Spotify website. Spotify is referring to the feature as “your destination for live events by creators you love, ticketed by Spotify," and you can see it in action now across upcoming shows in the USA for Limbeck, TOKiMONSTA Annie DiRusso, Four Year Strong and several more.
While the tickets feature does not offer any Australian events at present, it does have a feature that music fans are sure to appreciate; no hidden booking or processing fees. The prices listed are exactly what you can expect to pay.
The company has stressed that "tickets are not resellable, transferable, or refundable.” and confirmed that while purchased in-app the tickets themselves won't generate in-app. "Once you successfully purchase your tickets, an email confirmation will be sent to the email you used to register for your Spotify account. To collect the tickets, go to the Box Office and present your email confirmation and a valid ID.”
The 'tickets' feature has the potential to be a great resource for artists, removing a barrier between listeners enjoying their music and purchasing tickets to see it played live.

The new feature marks another example of Spotify's expanding business model, having launched an artist resource service, toyed with a marketplace for NFTs, diversified its advertising portfolios, launched web3 functionality, streamed live sets by artists and DJs and even showcased a prototype karaoke machine.
The diversification of Spotify's offerings comes at a time when TikTok are reportedly set to launch a music-streaming service, providing fresh competition for both Spotify and Apple Music.
TikTok parent company ByteDance has reportedly filed for a trademark for a service called TikTok Music with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
The patent application outlines several components of the potential new streaming service including "allowing users to purchase, play, share, download music, songs, albums, lyrics," and "live stream audio and video interactive media programming in the field of entertainment, fashion, sports and current events."
The patent application also outlines some interactive elements as well, including the ability to comment, share and contribute content.
Many of these features are already available to users of the ByteDance-owned Resso streaming service, active in Brazil, Indonesia and India.
