A woman tragically fell to her death from an escalator at the end of Kenny Chesney’s concert at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver on the night of Saturday, July 30.

The Denver Post reports that the woman was sitting on an escalator railing when she fell to the concourse below and died as a result of her injuries, according to police. The incident happened at 10.52 pm and police announced her death just after 11 pm.

Police are investigating the incident as accidental and describe the woman as an “guest” of the stadium. It’s unknown at this time if alcohol played a factor, but police spokesman Nate Magee doesn’t believe the woman was pushed or bumped.

“To my understanding there was none of that, it was just an accidental fall, I don’t think anyone pushed her or anything like that,” Magee said, citing witness accounts.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of the woman involved in the tragic incident that occurred at the end of Saturday’s concert,” Empower Field shared. “There is nothing more important than the safety of our guests, and Stadium Management Company is in communication with the Denver Police Department as it investigates this unfortunate situation.”

Neither the woman’s age nor identity have been revealed. It’s also unclear how she fell or whether she died at the stadium or at a hospital.

In a statement Sunday, Chesney said, “I was devastated to learn of the loss of someone after our show. There had been so much joy, so much heart coming from the people of Denver last night — and to hear this is heartbreaking. Life is precious. Sharing music brings us together and that love we share makes us so much more. For the lady who came to share that love, there are no words. For her friends and family’s loss, I grieve with them and for them.”

The Here & Now show featured support from Carly Pearce, Dan + Shay and Old Dominion.
