Five nights of pop, rock and emo are coming to Australia this October, courtesy of Waterparks on their debut Australian headline tour with special guest Lights, visiting Australia for the first time.

Last Friday, Waterparks released their highly anticipated fifth album, Intellectual Property

The Houston genre-bending trio’s vocalist and guitarist Awsten Knight said about their music, “When you listen to us, I just want you to feel good. It’s bouncy shit. Even if it’s aggressive, it’s enthusiastic. There’s a lot of energy behind this. I try to make music that tingles people’s fucking brains, which is what my favourite music does for me.”

In a new cover story interview with Alternative Press, he also revealed the significance of the frog on the cover of Intellectual Property, sharing that he was delving into religious guilt.

“Frogs have always been one of my favourite animals. However, when I learned that frogs were seen as dirty and unclean in a biblical context, it was interesting to me that something that I saw as so good, natural and beautiful could also be seen as a bad thing through a biblical lens,” Knight said. “Growing up in church, you’re taught that everything is so wrong and bad. I always felt like shit, so [this album] is the breakaway from that specifically.”

Joining Waterparks on tour is Lights, who anyone on Tumblr from 2012-2015 would remember seeing pictures, gifs and videos of during that time.

Lights is a singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, comic book author, DJ and artist. Throughout her career thus far, the Canada-born disruptor has garnered four JUNO Awards, including 2020's Dance Recording of the Year for the platinum smash Love Me with Felix Cartal and Pop Album of the Year for her previous two albums, Skin&Earth and Little Machines

She has sold out tours on multiple continents and powered collaborations with Travis Barker, deadmau5, Kaskade, Steve Aoki, Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, and more.
