For reference as to how huge their first show back was, Dogstar performed on the same day as Duran Duran, Lizzo, Nile Rodgers & Chic, Lupe Fiasco, and many more.
Not only will Dogstar – the 90s and 2000s grunge/alternative band starring Keanu Reeves on bass – release new music this year after a 20-year absence, but on Saturday (27 May), the rockers returned to the stage for the first time since October 2002.
Reeves co-founded Dogstar in 1991. In their 11-year activity, the band had the opportunity to open for Bon Jovi and opened one show for David Bowie.
The reformed outfit starring Reeves, singer-guitarist Brett Domrose and drummer Robert Mailhouse didn’t play their first show back at a pub, they performed at BottleRock Festival in Napa Valley, California. For reference as to how huge their first show back was, they performed on the same day as Duran Duran, Lizzo, Nile Rodgers & Chic, Lupe Fiasco, and many more.
Performing songs from 1996’s Our Little Visionary and 2000’s Happy Ending, Dogstar’s two albums, the band also played unreleased tracks from their soon-to-be-released unnamed album, including one named Glimmer.
Revealing why Dogstar decided to reunite now, Reeves said in a recent Billboard interview, “I missed playing together, I missed writing together, I missed doing shows together. It’s something I’ve always missed.

“It’s something that’s part of my life,” he added, “We came to a spot where we weren’t playing anymore, and I missed it … Once we started to play, and it felt good, and really positive and creative, that’s when it was like, ‘Okay, let’s make this happen.’” You can check out Dogstar’s performance at BottleRock below.
Since the initial post showcasing their comeback, Dogstar have played a handful of shows, including a private gig "for the incredible people who made our new album possible" in December, but nothing like BottleRock.
"We will be rolling out some new music this summer, followed by some gigs. As soon as it’s all figured out we will let everyone know immediately,” the band said in a recent string on social media comments.
Dogstar continued, "So much to do, but rest assured, we are on it and have assembled a fantastic team that are helping us. We are also going to make a music video to support our first tune. That’s all I can say now.
"Can’t wait to share our new music with everyone. It’s the most satisfying and meaningful batch of songs we’ve ever done. Thanks again for being so patient with us. We truly have the best, most loyal fans!”
