The Melbourne band kick off their sojourn from next week

Eclectic Melburnian outfit Vaudeville Smash have just released their new single, Laura, along with an accompanying video clip, as the band prepares for the arrival for impending album The Gift and an imminent national tour.

Laura is the first taste to come from The Gift, which will be released a little later this month, on Friday 26 August. It's a synth-filled, flute-flecked, masterful piece of golden dad-funk (that's a term of endearment, we swear), and it sufficiently whets the appetite for the aural pleasures contained on the upcoming full-length.

The clip — which is just gleeful enough in how few fucks it gives about what anyone else thinks as to be endearing — was directed, co-produced and edited by Chris Mitchell, with Alex Mitchell also serving as producer, and features cinematography from Michael Wylam, choreography by Stephen Tannos and the talents of Shivawn Joubert (dancer), Marko 'Peder' Soda (trumpet), Jayan Nadagopan (trombone), Stephen Brooks (saxophone) and Van Nguyen (percussion).

You don't have to watch the band through a screen, though — they're days out from setting off on a national tour in support of the new album, the first four shows of which are all ages shows, including the Townsville Cultural Fest the weekend of 19-21 August, the free show at Brisbane's Boundary Hotel on Friday 26 August, Noosa's Junction Alley on 27 August and the freww gig at Hotel Brunswick, Brunswick Heads, on 28 August. The final two shows are 18+ and take the band to Jive, in Adelaide, on Saturday 10 September, and Melbourne's Gasometer on Saturday 24 September. Tickets are available now; see theGuide for more details.
