Tropical Fuck Storm have shared the sad news that founding bassist and vocalist Fiona Kitschin has been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.

The band posted to social media this morning to update fans and give an explanation as to why they would be cancelling any shows planned outside of Australia for 2023.

"Hey all, We’ve hit a bump in the road here at TFS HQ as Fiona has been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. She’s in good spirits considering but it means she’s going to need a lot of treatment. And that means we’re going to have to cancel all the TFS shows we’d planned outside of Australia for 2023 so we can get her all fixed up, shiny and new.

"Sorry to everyone who bought tix to the upcoming US West Coast shows. You can get refunds at the place you purchased them.

"We’ll have to play everything else by ear but we’ll try to keep you all informed."

The band had planned to tour the US West Coast this month, kicking off in San Diego.

An outpouring of support has come from fans who have flooded the post with comments of well wishes.

Recent collaborators King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard also commented, "Sending love Fi."

Tropical Fuck Storm was created by Kitschin and her partner Gareth Liddiard, who both previously played in the Drones. They recruited Lauren Hammel from High Tension and Erica Dunn from Mod Con, Harmony and more.

They released their first album, A Laughing Death in Meatspace, in 2018 to great acclaim before embarking on 2019's Braindrops and 2021's Deep States. In 2023, they are set to release a cover album titled, Submersive Behaviour! which features their own unique spin on classics from legends like Jimi Hendrix, Middle Aged in the Middle East in the Middle Ages, Men Men Menstruation, Compliments to the Chef, and The Stooges.
