Timbaland, Steely Dan, R.E.M. & More To Be Inducted Into Songwriters Hall Of Fame

Timbaland, R.E.M. and Steely Dan have been named among the latest inductees for the Songwriters Hall Of Fame.

Alongside iconic lyricist Dean Pitchford and singer-songwriter Hillary Lindsey, they’ll be honoured at an induction gala in New York, slated to be held on June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel. The organisation will also announce further honourees for special awards at a later date.

In a press statement, Songwriters Hall Of Fame chairman Nile Rodgers declared that “the music industry does not exist without songwriters delivering great songs first”. He continued: “Without them there is no recorded music, no concert business, no merch... nothing, it all starts with the song and the songwriter.

“We are therefore very proud that we are continually recognising some of the culturally most important songwriters of all time and that the 2024 slate represents not just iconic songs but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity and gender, songwriters who have enriched our lives and literally enriched music and the lives of billions of listeners all over the world.”

Last year saw seven artists inducted into the Hall Of Fame: Glen Ballard, Snoop Dogg, Gloria Estefan, Jeff Lynne (of Electric Light Orchestra), Teddy Riley, Liz Rose and Sade.
