The Superjesus have teamed up with Groglords, the “home of metal/rock/punk booze in Australia”, and launched their very own alcohol: Sumo gin.

Named after their 1998 debut album of the same name, the Sumo gin is a 500ml bottle that can supply 15 standard drinks and 40% ABV, celebrating 25 years of Sumo. Limited to 250 bottles, you’ll want to quickly pre-order yours from the Groglords website.

“You folks like Gin?” The Superjesus asked on Instagram last night (30 July), “We do! So much so that we have partnered with Groglords to create our own limited-edition release to celebrate 25 years of Sumo… it’s our new favourite thing!!”

Describing its punchy, fruity flavours, the band continued, “Sumo Gin packs a subtle punch of green tea, cumquat, mandarin and lemon peel - alongside the traditional gin mouthfeel that is expected from a premium release.

“Wanna try it? It’s smooth n silky and makes you wanna mosh to 90’s grunge”.

Upon its release, Sumo peaked at #2 on the ARIA Albums Chart and has been certified Platinum in Australia. The Superjesus also won the inaugural Best Rock Album award at the 1998 ARIA Awards.

The Sumo gin follows the band’s latest single, Lights Out, and a corresponding tour that begins in mid-August.

Lights Out opens with bright, ringing guitars before Sarah McLeod’s voice comes in. She’s never sounded this desperate or grief-stricken, and that gritty, cracking vocal brings tears to the eyes when she’s anchored by her bandmates, bassist Stuart Ruddy Rudd, lead guitarist Cam Blokland and drummer Murray Sheridan, the latter of whom produced the track.

The song and tour honour a longtime Superjesus fan who sadly passed away a few years ago. Tickets are on sale now via the band’s website. You can find the date and venue details below.

Lights Out arrives after The Superjesus’ comeback single, Money (We’re Only In It For Love), which was released in mid-January.
