More The Menzingers More The Menzingers

Philadelphia punk rock outfit The Menzingers are preparing to release their seventh album, Some Of It Was True, and with the album announcement, provided a cracking lead single in the form of Hope Is A Dangerous Thing.

Featuring archival live concert footage around a filmed lo-fi road trip, The Menzingers exercise their usual relatable, genuine heart-on-your-sleeve brand of punk rock. A bit theatrical and totally rock and roll, Hope Is A Dangerous Thing is a welcome addition to an already impressive discography. Check out the music video below.

Some Of It Was True will be released via Epitaph Records on Friday, 13 October. If you want some physical merch, you can head here. You can also pre-save and pre-order other editions of the album here.

While the album arrives on the 13th of October, it’s only the digital album – physical copies will be released on 26 January 2024, likely due to vinyl distribution delays.

“Written over the last two and a half years in hotels, backstages, basements, and rehearsal rooms and recorded during a life-changing retreat down south, ‘Some Of It Was True’ is the most realised version of what we set out to do when we started this band 17 years ago—have fun and be ourselves,” vocalist and guitarist Greg Barnett said in a statement.

Some Of It Was True was recorded at the iconic Sonic Ranch studio in El Paso, Texas, with producer Brad Cook (Bon Iver, the War on Drugs, Waxahatchee). Cook called the band “as real as it gets” while finding a raw yet polished rock sound.

Cook added, “I had an absolute blast working with these guys and was moved to tears many times. They are truly dedicated to artistic growth, and to each other, in ways I found both refreshing and beautiful. I am now a lifer.”

Guitarist and backing vocalist Tom May said that Cook “massively changed the way we were approaching the record,” per a press release.

“We’d talk about music and develop a vocabulary about how to work together, and that made us embrace chasing the feeling instead worrying about locking in things immediately.”

Barnett continued saying that Some Of It Was True “feels different” for The Menzingers. “It’s a really important one in our catalogue and a pivotal moment in our history,” he continued.

“We have the liberty of our fans growing with us now, and after writing these lyrical songs about where we are in life, we decided to take other peoples’ stories and make something bigger out of it.”
