More Human League More Human League

The Human League will bring their most successful album, 1981’s Dare, their third album, to Australia in March 2024 for a run of theatre shows.

Featuring the ARIA #4 single, Don’t You Want Me, The Human League catapulted to the top of the UK Albums and Singles Charts as the fourth single from Dare was the best-selling single in the UK in 1981.

Dare brought great success to The Human League’s record labels, Virgin and A&M. For the former; the album provided the label with its first chart-topper since Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells in 1973.

Led by the singles Don’t You Want Me, Love Action, The Sound Of The Crowd, and Open Your Heart, Dare is pop perfection. Dare was huge and signalled The Human League’s departure from their avante-garde electronic music to a more commercial style of electronic pop music led by vocalist Philip Oakey.

In March 2024, The Human League will celebrate Dare by playing the album in its entirety as well as performing a range of other hits. The Early Bird pre-sale begins on Friday, 21 July, at 9 am local time, and the general on sale will commence on Tuesday, 25 July, at 9 am local time. You can sign up for pre-sale here.

The synth-pop hitmakers The Human League are founding member Philip Oakey, Joanne Catherall and Susan Ann Sulley. Together the band are still as captivating and as charismatic as ever. You can catch them performing at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall (6 March), Sydney’s Enmore Theatre (8 March), Melbourne’s Palais Theatre (9 March), Adelaide’s AEC Theatre (11 March) and Perth’s Astor Theatre (14 March).

The Human League last performed in Australia in December 2017 and even joined The Culture Club on their arena tour that year. Catching The Human League in Perth, The Music reviewer Mac McNaughton wrote, “There's always been more going on under the surface of the League than fashion and waitresses in cocktail bars may have you believe as The Sound Of The Crowd and the lyrical horror of The Lebanon ably showcase.”

And the ending? The “inevitable closer Don't You Want Me (greatest pop song of the '80s: discuss!) made the crowd go even more bonkers. Forty-five minutes just wasn't enough.”
