It’s been a long nine years since we’ve heard new music from The Gaslight Anthem, but they’re finally back today with a new single, Positive Charge. Check out the music video below.

In July 2015, the New Jersey rockers – Brian Fallon (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Alex Rosamilia (lead guitar, backing vocals), Alex Levine (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Benny Horowitz (drums, percussion, backing vocals) – announced that they were going on an indefinite hiatus after performing at Reading Festival that August.

After temporarily reuniting for a run of shows commemorating the 10th anniversary of The 59 Sound in 2018, The Gaslight Anthem momentarily resumed their hiatus. Last March, however, Fallon shocked the emo/punk music world by revealing that the band had returned to full-time status in an Instagram post.

He wrote, “Hello everyone, Brian here. I hate to disappoint you, but I need to inform you that there will not be a 10th anniversary Handwritten Tour, or a documentary film… However, I am very pleased to announce to you all that The Gaslight Anthem is returning to full time status as a band.

“We’ll be announcing a lot of tour dates in the next couple of days. We’re also beginning to write new songs for what will be our sixth LP. We’re very much looking forward to the future and seeing you all again. We want to thank you for staying with us. Stay tuned!”

The Gaslight Anthem did indeed embark on a lot of tour dates, hitting the US, the UK and Europe. Australia and New Zealand fans were unlucky, but with new music on the horizon, perhaps that will change.

Positive Change is the first single to be released on The Gaslight Anthem’s own Rich Mahogany Recordings label, distributed via Thirty Tigers/Cooking Vinyl Australia.

Produced and mixed by Grammy Award-winner Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, Kurt Vile) at his Tarquin Studios in Connecticut, the gloriously optimistic track signifies a new beginning – a wonderful one with The Gaslight Anthem back in our lives.

“Positive Charge began as a message of joy to ourselves and to our audience,” Fallon said about the track. “The central theme is about looking at the things you’ve come through and feeling like you want to go ahead with an open heart toward the future, believing that the best years are not behind any of us and the good we have is worth something.”

The Gaslight Anthem are touring across the United States this September and October.
