The Cranberries Singer Dolores O'Riordan Passes Away At 46

The Cranberries have issued a statement on the passing of singer Dolores O'Riordan, saying "the world has lost a true artist today".

The Cranberries ​singer Dolores O'Riordan is confirmed to have passed away suddenly at the age of 46. 

As ABC reports, O'Riordan's publicist confirmed the Irish songwriter died during a trip to London for a recording session, however a cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

"Irish and international singer Dolores O'Riordan has died suddenly in London today," publicist Lindsey Holmes said in a statement.

"Family members are devastated to hear the breaking news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."

The Cranberries are considered as one of the most successful bands of the '90s, selling over 40 million records. Together they recorded seven albums, with the latest, ​Something Else​, being released in April last year. 

The alt-rock outfit were forced to cancel a number of shows in North America and Europe in support of the LP, as O'Riordan was suffering from back problems. 

A number of figures in the music industry and wider community have paid tribute to O'Riordan, including Irish President Michael D Higgins who said in a statement, "To all those who follow and support Irish music, Irish musicians and the performing arts, her death will be a big loss".

My first time hearing Dolores O'Riordan's voice was unforgettable. It threw into question what a voice could sound like in that context of Rock. I'd never heard somebody use their instrument in that way. Shocked and saddened to hear of her passing, thoughts are with her family.

Heartbreaking. Dolores O’Riordan was a massive influence for me. I grew up listening to The Cranberries with my mother and learned so much about having an unconventional singing voice. Dolores taught me how to use my voice in a manner that was emotive, even if I wasn’t classically skilled. That people will love it when you MEAN what you SAY. Her voice was beautiful to me. And she was a fierce BADASS trailblazing woman in the rock landscape. (I also learned a thing or two about changing my hair every week it seems). Always an inspiration to me and I’m devastated to hear about her death. Rest In Peace, you were far too young.
