Powerhouse rock group Teen Jesus And The Jean Teasers have returned with their first single of 2023; the blistering Lights Out.

Momentum for the Canberra outfit has steadily built in recent years. After releasing their debut EP, Pretty Good For A Girl Band, last May, and their banger Girl Sports peaking at #55 on the 2022 triple j Hottest 100, the new track arrives at the perfect time.

All eyes are on Teen Jesus And The Jean Teasers, and rightly so. Lights Out is the first track to be released from their upcoming, yet-to-be-announced debut album, due out later this year.

The band said about the rocking new single, “Lights Out is a celebration of realising you’re hot and can empower yourself. The years between the ages of 18 and 22 are some of the most developmental years of a person’s life, and Lights Out describes these years.

"It’s all about claiming your sexuality, and confidence and not caring about what the drunk strangers in a Canberra nightclub will think of you.”

It’s three minutes of sheer power, riffs, and memorable call-and-response lines.

About the retro, VHS-inspired music video, the band added, “To create the video for Lights Out, we brought a camcorder to capture BTS shots throughout the tour and individually recorded ourselves on Photo Booth singing along to the song.

"This was one of the first songs we wrote all together, so we really wanted to create a fun music video that not only captured all of us together but one that we created entirely ourselves.”

Formed during high school in their hometown of Canberra in 2019, Teen Jesus And The Jean Teasers - Anna Ryan (they/them; vocals/guitar), Scarlett McKahey (she/her; guitar/vocals), Jaida Stephenson (she/her; bass) and Neve van Boxsel (she/her; drums) - channel Riot Grrrl-era energy with a 2023 spin and are the most natural, confident and likeable punk-rockers you’ll hear.
