Teen Jesus And The Jean Teasers have announced a national tour in support of their forthcoming debut album, I Love You, sharing the news this morning (July 27) alongside a jaunty new single called I Used To Be Fun.

It’s one of the band’s more upbeat numbers, shining with a bouncy drum beat and melodic hook primed to get bodies moving at Teen Jesus’ concerts. In a joint statement, the band explained that I Used To Be Fun is about “getting older and redefining the way you have fun”, pointing out that as all four members have navigated their way through the ups and downs of their early twenties, they’ve noticed “that fun looks really different sometimes”.

“[The song is] about missing your past self who would go out every night and have a fully charged social battery,” the band added, “rather than seeing the fun in staying home alone.”

I Used To Be Fun arrives alongside a music video directed, filmed and edited by Teen Jesus’ drummer, Neve Van Boxsel, shot in various locations around Naarm/Melbourne. Have a look at that below:

I Used To Be Fun comes as our fourth preview of I Love You, following the release of lead single AHHHH! (which also appears on Teen Jesus’ Pretty Good For A Girl Band EP) in July of 2021, Lights Out back in March of this year, and Never Saw It Coming last month. In an interview with The Music, Van Boxsel shared that Never Saw It Coming was an immensely personal song for her, written in the wake of a traumatic experience she endured: “It’s been a long process but there’s no way I could’ve done that without [the band’s] constant encouragement,” she said.
